It looks like Sony has gotten caught with its hand in an enormous cookie jar. If you’re a nerd, you’ll find this stuff fascinating (how smart are these guys for figuring out what Sony’s up to! And how likely would I be to see them at a party?) If you’re not a nerd, you should […]

I’ve been trying to learn Ruby On Rails for the past few weeks, and it’s been an interesting challenge. Historically, programming languages (PHP and the like) have been difficult for me to grasp. While I don’t know what I’m doing, I feel like I do understand how ROR works - sort of.
The coolest thing? ROR […]

We’re working on the next iteration of a pretty slick tool for students on campus, and It’s a doozy from an interface standpoint. The company prides itself on customizing everything we do for clients, and it’s a big reason why we’ve been so successful. But for interfaces it can be tough - every aspect of […]

Now Microsoft’s jumping in the web application game….it’s kind of cool being right. It’s a shame it happens so rarely….

I’ve been talking with my co-workers for the past few weeks about the future of the web. I’ve been wondering whether the days of personal storage on a personal computer are coming to an end. My more intelligent counterparts have pointed out to me that a “Web OS” is out of the picture. Apparently, Windows, […]

Trying to come up with the perfect pitch, but can’t seem to get rid of that block? Take the Ad Conceptor for a test drive. By the creative men and women at Deutsch.

The 43-trifecta is complete. The Robots have unveiled 43 People to current members of their community. If you haven’t heard of these guys yet, I think you will very soon. 43 Things, 43 Places, and now 43 people represent what is in my opinion the most clever social networking app on the market. The community […]

Once again, the good fellows at 37Signals have created a simple, easy-to-use web app that makes me wish I was smarter.
This one’s called Writeboard - it’s a web-based publishing platform to keep track of your ideas. As always, it does only what it needs to do and no more. Their philosophy of embracing constraints, making […]

Visited Rollyo this morning. It’s basically Yahoo! Search results, filtered to only include results from sites you trust. You can create your own ’searchroll,’ check out others, etc.
Another great example of a group of smart people seeing an opportunity, build a beta version of a simply, easy-to-use web app, and work with their growing community […]

In the interest of keeping those I left back in Colorado abreast of where my travels are taking me, and in an effort to look like someone who knows what he’s doing, I’ve put a little map on the homepage showing where I am any given week.
It’s using the new Google Maps API that was […]

I’ve got a lot of travel coming up, visiting clients who are interspersed all over the country. I book my own travel, so I have to figure out where to stay, what to eat, what roads to take between meetings, etc.
Thankfully, I now have what could only be described as the most amazing piece of […]

I was going through my old comments, and I found one from this young man from Poland. Marian Lewandowski takes photos of places I wish I’ve been to, and captures moments I wish I were fortunate enough to have seen. I guess that’s the objective of any photographer…
Check out his site when you have a […]

As much of an egoist as I am, I make no bones about where I get my inspiration from. And in the realm of information design and usability, there is absolutely no one better than 37 Signals.
A small team of 5 guys, everything they do is done in a way that is friendly and usable […]

I’ve always maintained my contrarian status by designing on a PC. But this latest Mac OS might just be cool enough to make me switch.
I’ll be curious to see people’s thoughts as they begin using it - that seperation between the web and the desktop is fast disappearing, and I wonder whether it’s a change […]

Just completed our company’s program design for Saint Anselm College, a Benedictine Catholic school in New Hampshire. This one was a lot of fun to make, and makes heavy use of the drop shadows and textures that I’ve grown to love.
The program is available to students only, but you can see the design mockup here.

It’s Valentine’s Day. You’re the largest card company in the world. You’d think you’d devote a ton of time and energy to get this right.
Proof that even giants can stumble.

Finished working on what could be my favorite project ever. My company is creating a year-long program for freshmen students at Manhattan College, and I was given the tast of creating the main interface.
It took a painfully long time, but the end result is a replica of the Manhattan College campus. Each of the buildings […]
