Went to Washington for the International Ecotourism Gala. I’ve decided that Washington is one of my favorite cities.

It’s a young city, very much like New York. Everyone is full of life, everyone seems to be going somewhere or doing something important. It’s like seeing all the idealism in the country congregated in one place, before they have to make compromises, before they have to decide how gray the lines between right and wrong are. Everyone is opinionated, everyone truly cares about something, whether it’s education or the economy or women’s rights or the plight of the egyptian pygmy goat.

The buildings - so much history in those buildings. The monuments, the memorials. Grass. Air. A burger at least slightly less than $20. Everything within walking distance.

It reminded me so much of college, where everyone belives in something, where everyone’s still trying to make a difference and not just make another million.

In my hotel room, with a television in front of me for the first time in months, I found myself flipping past ESPN to a documentary on global warming. There must be something in the water.
